Honoree Spotlight: Sherrif Grady Judd

For more than five decades, Sheriff Grady Judd has dedicated his life to protecting, leading, and serving the residents of Polk County. His journey began in 1972 as a dispatcher with the Polk County Sheriff's Office before transferring to patrol in 1974. Through determination, discipline, and a deep commitment to community safety, he rose through every rank—from Sergeant to Colonel—earning the respect of both his colleagues and the citizens he serves. In 2004, Polk County voters overwhelmingly elected him as Sheriff, a role he continues to fulfill with unwavering resolve.

Sheriff Judd’s leadership is strengthened by a lifelong pursuit of excellence. He holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Rollins College and is a graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy, along with several advanced executive leadership programs. His commitment to learning reflects his belief that effective leadership requires both experience and continual growth.

Beyond law enforcement, Sheriff Judd has invested in education and mentorship, serving as an adjunct professor at the University of South Florida and Florida Southern College. His honors—including induction into the Polk County School Board Hall of Fame, Polk State College’s Distinguished Alumni Award, and the Boy Scouts of America Distinguished Citizen Award—highlight his impact not only in public safety but also in youth development and community leadership.

For Filling The Lane, Sheriff Judd has been more than a partner—he has been a trusted ally. Through collaboration with his office and leadership team, he has helped guide young people facing difficult circumstances toward education, accountability, and personal growth.

His support of youth engagement initiatives and prevention-focused programs reflects a philosophy grounded in understanding and opportunity rather than punishment alone.
