Filling The Lane Announces New Board Leadership

Filling The Lane continues to strengthen its leadership as the organization enters an exciting season of growth and expanded impact across Central Florida. We are proud to announce the appointment of a new Board Chair and to formally welcome a new ex officio board member—each bringing unique experience, perspective, and commitment to our mission of empowering youth through education, athletics, mentorship, and community engagement.




Markeishia Smith

Appointed as Board Chair (2026–2027)


Filling The Lane proudly announces the appointment of Markeishia Smith as Board Chair for the 2026–2027 term.


Markeishia brings a wealth of leadership experience, strategic insight, and civic expertise to the role. Her appointment represents a pivotal step forward as Filling The Lane continues to expand its programs, strengthen governance, and build sustainable pathways for student success.


“Markeishia is a respected leader whose professionalism, integrity, and commitment to community align perfectly with our mission,” said Dr. Vincent M. Miller, Executive Director of Filling The Lane. “As we enter a pivotal season of growth, her guidance as Board Chair will be instrumental in helping us scale responsibly while remaining deeply rooted in service to our youth and families.”


As Board Chair, Markeishia will preside over board meetings, support strategic priorities, and work closely with organizational leadership to ensure strong governance, accountability, and long-term sustainability. Her leadership will help guide Filling The Lane through continued program expansion, increased partnerships, and deeper community impact.

In addition to welcoming new board leadership, Filling The Lane is excited to formally welcome Jennifer Thornton as an ex officio board member.


Jennifer brings a strong background in nonprofit leadership and community service, having served with respected organizations including the Heart of Florida Girl Scout Council, Junior League of Winter Haven, Garden Club of Winter Haven, and Public Education Partnership. Her longstanding commitment to education, youth, and community development aligns seamlessly with the mission of Filling The Lane.


Most importantly, Jennifer has been a consistent and dedicated supporter of Filling The Lane. Her belief in our work and our students has helped strengthen the organization, and we are grateful for her continued partnership.


As an ex officio board member, Jennifer will provide insight, perspective, and support as Filling The Lane continues to grow its programs and serve students and families throughout Central Florida.
