The Legacy Lives On: Looking Back at the 2026 Lucille Davis Burton Scholarship & Recognition Banquet

On June 26, 2026, families, student-athletes, coaches, community leaders, sponsors, and supporters gathered at the Winter Haven AdventHealth Fieldhouse for an evening that celebrated much more than academic achievement.

The 2026 Lucille Davis Burton Scholarship & Recognition Banquet was a celebration of legacy, leadership, perseverance, and the bright future of the young people we are privileged to serve through Filling The Lane.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, sponsors, community partners, and families, more than $35,000 was invested through scholarships, college support, laptop computers, leadership awards, and student recognition. Every scholarship awarded represented an opportunity. Every student recognized represented a future filled with promise.

Celebrating Academic Excellence

One of the most meaningful moments of the evening was recognizing students whose hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence have opened doors to new opportunities.

In addition to these scholarship awards, six graduating seniors received laptop computers to support their educational journeys. Students were also recognized with Executive Director Awards, COACH watches, and honors including MVP, Impact Player, Heart of the Program, and Coach's Awards.

An Evening of Inspiration

This year's featured speaker, Dr. Lloyd Walton, inspired attendees through his remarkable journey from NBA Champion to educator, author, and motivational speaker.

His message challenged students to pursue excellence not only in athletics but also in education, character, leadership, and service. His story served as a powerful reminder that success is built through discipline, perseverance, and a commitment to lifelong learning.

One attendee shared:

“Hearing Dr. Lloyd Walton share his journey from the NBA to earning a Ph.D. was a powerful reminder of the life-changing impact of education, perseverance, and mentorship.”

Another guest reflected on the importance of providing young people with mentors and opportunities:

“These students are receiving more than scholarships. They are receiving a roadmap for success from leaders who have walked the path before them.”
