It’s Always Bigger Than Basketball

FTL had a powerful and purposeful weekend in Memphis. While other programs may have come just to play, we came to educate, to inspire, and to grow.

This trip, we chose to drive intentionally—many of our players had never crossed a state line in a car. That experience alone was eye-opening. But beyond the great games and strong competition, we knew we would be doing our players a disservice if we didn’t take them to one of the most significant places in American history: the Lorraine Motel, where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated.

At Filling The Lane, it’s not just about what’s taught in the classroom or on the court—it’s about what our youth experience in real life. Visiting this historic site brought powerful lessons to life, lessons that no history book alone can teach.

This is what makes FTL different. This is why we do what we do.
