From the Ground Up: The Legacy of Sherry Bryant at Filling The Lane

Before the growth… before the travel… before the recognition… there was Sherry Bryant.

Thirteen years ago, Filling The Lane began with something simple but powerful, just two board members, Sherry Bryant and Dr. Vincent Miller, building from the ground up. There were no major sponsors, no large support system, and no guaranteed path forward. What they had was vision, sacrifice, and an unwavering belief in the potential of our youth.

And through it all, Sherry was there, not just present, but fully invested.

She wasn’t just part of the journey… she helped carry it.

From long drives across state lines just to give our players exposure, to organizing some of the very first out-of-state tournaments, Sherry made sure our youth had opportunities far beyond what was immediately in front of them. She helped open doors that many didn’t even know existed, showing our players that their future could be bigger than their surroundings.

Even when life took her to Minnesota, her connection to the mission never faded. Distance didn’t weaken her commitment. And when she returned to Polk County, she stepped right back in, with the same passion, the same energy, and the same heart, as if she had never left.

Before the flights…Before the sponsorships…Before Voices…

There was Sherry.

She was there in the unseen moments, the ones that don’t make headlines.

Cooking fish plates to help raise funds.Calling parents, checking on players, and coordinating with schools.Showing up wherever and however she was needed, without hesitation, and without ever asking for recognition.

That’s what true commitment looks like.

That’s what real service looks like.

It’s not always loud. It’s not always visible. But it is always impactful.

At Filling The Lane, we don’t just celebrate how far we’ve come — we honor the people who made it possible to get here.

People like Sherry Bryant.

A foundation builder.

A servant leader.

A true pillar of this program.

Because long before the success… there were individuals who believed when it wasn’t easy, who gave when there wasn’t much to give, and who stayed committed when the outcome was still uncertain.

Sherry is one of those people.

And because of that, generations of young athletes have been given opportunities, exposure, and hope, all rooted in the work she helped start.

Thank you, Sherry Bryant, for your heart, your sacrifice, and your unwavering dedication to this mission.

Your impact will always be part of this story.
